bus & coach travel

Bus travel is the cheapest form of travel for your shorter distances in Australia. The more populated areas have a fairly comprehensive network of bus routes which will allow you to hop on and off en route to your destination.

Once you start to head out into the more remote areas, the distances between towns increase and you will tend to stay on the tourist routes and follow the main highways. Bus travel at this point becomes a less cost effective travel option.

You may also find yourself disappointed. Although coaches are comfortable and generally have air-conditioning, reading lights, adjustable seats and videos there is a lot to be said for sitting in what can be a cramped seat, watching the scenery go past. This and the decreasing internal flight prices have led to the merger of the 2 main national coach companies leaving just Greyhound. Greyhound will travel to all mainland states, large cities and towns and regional centres.

Coach Tours
Several companies operate tours designed for 18-35 year olds, offering Australia-wide programs that range from a couple of days to a few weeks. Tours are fun, adventurous and very social, with like minded travellers from all over the world.

Coach Passes
Coach passes offer flexibility and value for money. Check with your travel agent for details. Special discounts are offered to international pensioners, International Student Identity cardholders and holders of backpacker discount cards.
